Hello Friends! We are in the middle of a winter wonderland here in Vancouver, what a crazy week we had! I have not seen this much snow in Vancouver …well…maybe ever! The kids even got a snow day on Wednesday which felt like Christmas to them, it’s such a rare occasion! The dogs really loved it too, Ginger in particular. Did you catch the funny video I shared on instagram of her stealing the snow shovel from Stella and running down the alley with it?
The crazy snowfall is not the only excitement going on around here, and today I have an exciting announcement to share with you all…my house is going to be featured on my favorite blog – The DIY Playbook!
The DIY Playbook is a home improvement and decorating blog run by Casey Finn, who lives with her husband in Chicago Illinois. They are fixing up their dream home in a neighborhood super close to where Steve and I lived during our short time in Chicago.
They call it the “Finn Fixer Upper and they have been renovating it since last summer. I have been reading this blog for four years now and even got to meet Casey on a trip to Chicago a few years ago.
Casey used to run the blog with her best friend Bridget, but last year B stepped away from the blog to raise her growing family. So now Casey is running it solo, and killing it! She is also expecting her first baby, which is just so exciting!
Not only is Casey just an all around amazing person with such a kind heart, but she has a great sense of style and and is a boss when it comes to DIY.
Last summer she started doing a monthly series called ‘Reader OMG’ where she showcases the homes of her readers, just like yours truly! You can catch up on the previous features by clicking here.
I am so excited and honored that Casey has chosen my home to be featured. When Casey asked if I knew someone who could take the photos for the feature, I had just taken that photography workshop with Tracey Ayton, who is a wizard when it comes to styling and interior photography. so she immediately came to mind. We approached her about it, and not only did she totally jump on board, but she is also going to have her amazing home featured on Casey’s blog!
Tracey is coming here the 28th of January which is fast approaching. I had originally scheduled the photo shoot for January the 9th, but I was feeling so overwhelmed trying to get my house ready with the kids home for winter break, and in the wake of Christmas chaos. Not to mention a few items that I had ordered for my house were delayed, and then of course, wouldn’t you know it, the handle in my master bathroom shower snapped off! I am so glad we pushed the photo shoot, because as you can imagine, I want this place to shine like the top of the Chrysler Building!
This blog feature was just the kick in the pants I needed to motivate me to finish off a few outstanding projects. Here are some of the things I have been working on to get my house photo ready:
I am most excited about the recent changes to my living room, which is one of the spaces that was inspired by Casey. True story, my big ‘Ah-ha” moment came while I was blissed out having a facial at Skoah. I had been following and loving how Casey was decorating, furnishing and styling her new living room, when I got the idea to move our TV to the wall and mount it over a storage cabinet I already had and loved, which was a similar configuration to Casey’s TV in her Living Room.
This is a shot of Casey’s Living Room:
And this is my TV mounted above the media cabinet that was previously in my Dining Room…
This room desperately needed a makeover. It was the one room that I hadn’t done much with since we moved in 7 years ago, which is really lame considering it’s the first space I see every morning and the last place I see before I go to bed. I already had the vision for my room, I just needed an excuse to launch my plan into action. I am most excited about the accent wall behind my bed…I will share photos of this space soon!
I love this bathroom and I am still obsessed with the Kohler trough sink that I splurged on during our renovation.
The bright aqua and orange bathroom was really cute when the kids were little, but was less appropriate given that the kids are now 10, 12 and 15. I changed the wall color to a soft grey and repainted the underside of the sink black…much more modern!
Our dining room table had been looking really sad for quite some time. It was one of the first things we purchased when we bought our first home here in North Van over 13 years ago. Back then, it was common to buy matching furniture sets.
The finish had seen better days, not to mention I was a little tired of having all black furniture in the dining room. I had been itching to switch it up in there for awhile, enter this pretty new table! I also simplified the wall decor and I have ordered a rug for the space. Here is a sneak peek…
I thought about painting over the chalkboard wall, because it seems like a trend that has died, but the reality is that my kids love this wall and it has actually become a really special feature to our family. We write notes and messages on there all the time, especially for birthdays.
Juzsh : a verb; it means to style and make pretty
I have been doing some all around “Juzshing” to my home, styling and tweaking, every room! I have had so much fun getting ready so far, but I still have some work to do before I can call this space done. I went through the rooms that will be photographed this week and made a detailed list of all the to-do items that remain.
I can’t wait until the day I can share my “Reader OMG” feature on the DIY Playbook, stay tuned for more details on when it will be published.
Thanks so much for reading and if you have any questions, please leave them for me below!
