Well the countdown to Halloween is on! I think I am ready…our costumes are organized (well the kids anyway) and I hauled out our bin of spooktacular decorations this week and decorated the Family Room, Kitchen and Dining Room. We always have a few families and kids over for pizza before we go trick or treating and we tend to congregate in these rooms so that’s where I focused my decorative energy. Today I thought I would share some photos of how I styled my home to get us all in the Halloween spirit. My favourite spot is our family room mantle, and the inspiration for it came from Studio McGee…Look at this front entry: I LOVE the black bats against the white brick and I decided to replicate it on my fireplace. I found these plastic bats at Walmart for a steal – 6 bats for $4 plus they came with this cool soft grey cheesecloth type fabric. I taped them onto the bricks and made it seem as if they were flying out of our fireplace. Check out the result: Pretty fun huh? I couldn’t help layering in my favourite accessories that I have collected over the years. Some things I have had for 15 years now, like this string of pumpkin lanterns which I hung in the window. I love the combination of black, white and orange…probably because of the high contrast. It just makes me happy!
The other area that I styled was the open shelf area in my kitchen. I love swapping accessories and decor on this shelf, so glad I included it in our design plan! I just added a few fun decorative items to the top shelf, incorporating them with my usual decor, like the cake stand and cook books. I used the grey cloth that came with the bats for some fun texture. I printed off this cool vintage bat artwork and paired it with my letterboard sign. You can find the printable here…there are some other really good ones as well! Just for fun, I set up the counter space as a drink station, which is what I do with this area during parties. A little Witches Brew anyone? Or maybe a coffin crisp or some scaries? I just love these fun chocolate bars and can’t resist buying them every year. I kept things pretty simple in the Dining Room, but I had to display my white ceramic skull in my cloche.
And there you have my 2019 simple Halloween Styling! My younger kiddos especially, are super excited for this upcoming week. I hope you and your little ghosts and goblins have a safe and fun October 31.
