I am excited to share an IKEA sofa review with you today. As a matter of fact I am sitting on said sofa as I type this blog post, with my trusty furry sidekick of course! This is not a sponsored post and IKEA is not paying me to say nice things about their stuff, I just genuinely love my new sofa!
We used to have a sectional sofa in this space that I purchased about a year and a half ago and it was definately not sparking joy for me, lol! While this sofa looked nice enough in our space, I was finding it extremely challenging to keep clean.
It was not slipcovered and I choose a light fabric color which was the first problem, and the other problem was that the fabric was a bit textured and dirt just seemed to stick to this thing! The dog was forever tracking bits of outside treasures onto it, like twigs and pine needles, and we also eat on this couch, so it was a real trap for crumbs. It was a constant source of stress for me because I am a bit of a clean freak and I cannot relax if something is dirty or out of place. After much debate, I decided to sell our sectional on Craigslist and go back to what has always worked for us in the past….Slipcovered Ikea sofas. We currently own 5 of them between our home and our cabin on the Lake. For example this Stocksund sofa is in our formal living room and I love it too…
but for today I am focusing on the Vimle.
Before Christmas, I was working on a client project and we went with the Vimle sofa from Ikea for her living room. It looked so great in her space…
that is got me thinking this style of sofa might work in our Family Room. I purchased the chaise style Vimle a little over a month ago, and I am so happy with it! This couch works so much better for our family, it’s super comfortable and it is a breeze to keep clean, yay!
Today I thought I would highlight 6 things that I love about this couch, so lets dive in shall we!
So as I already mentioned, the biggest pain point with our previous sofa was that it felt impossible to keep clean. With 3 kids and a dog, our sofa sees a lot of action.
I am really drawn to light colored neutral furniture and washable slipcovers make it realistic for me to go that route. I can’t stress enough how much I love being able to strip off the cushion covers and wash them when need be. Also, god forbid we damage this cover either with a stain or another one of Sadie’s slime creations, I can easily buy a new cover for around $200 which would not be the end of the world. This just alleviates so much stress for me and allows me to enjoy my home so much more. I don’t think I will ever go back to a non-slipcovered couch, I have learned my lesson!
As I already mentioned, I love light colors so I chose the same “Gunnared beige” slipcover that I used in my clients living room. I find the name of this color totally inacurrate, it is a light grey and not beige at all.
I love that this fabric is such a light color yet seems to magically hide the dirt that Miss Lucy tracks in on her paws. I have tried to explain to her that some dogs aren’t even allowed on the sofa…she was outraged.
The Vimle sofa comes in many different configurations and is completely customizable. Click here to visit the website and see all of the different ways you can customize this couch. I decided to go with the “chaise”version of the Vimle sofa because I love being able to strech my legs out when I am in lounge mode!
The super awesome feature of the chaise version of this sofa is that the top lifts up and has amazing storage hidden underneath!
Can you even? When I saw this feature in the showroom I swear I heard angels singing! In my experience, you can never have too much storage when it comes to a family room!
For now I am storing some extra pillows and throw blankets in there, but the possibilities are quite endless! This would also be a great place to store board games or toys! The seat opens and closes really smoothly…this might be my favorite part!
I love the clean lines of this sofa, it has a really classic and timeless shape. It’s like the little black dress of couches…except that it’s grey…but you know what I mean! The shape really works well with any style from traditional to mid century modern.
It’s all about how you style it! I have styled ours with pillows and a throw blanket in my favorite combination – black, white, grey and then some hits of color. Mustard yellow and teal are two colors I use together a lot throughout our home.
When I styled the Vimle sofa for my client, she wasn’t a big fan of color so we went for neutral colors but with lots of texture in the throw pillows…
and then introduced some pattern with this bolster pillow and plaid throw…
I also want to mention that if you don’t love the existing slipcover options at Ikea, you can easily get around that problem by checking out BEMZ. This is a genius company that makes slipcovers for IKEA furniture and they have about a million fabrics to choose from. Check out this Vimle covered in velvet…so pretty!
I have been talking a lot lately about how I firmly believe you do not need to spend a lot of money to create a home that you love and this is yet another example.
The sofa with chaise is $899 at Ikea which I think is a great price for such a comfortable and functional piece! I think it looks and feels more expensive than it is. The other thing to mention is that IKEA has a 10 year warrantee on all of their sofas, so make sure you keep the receipt!
While being able to keep it clean is the top of my list, the comfort factor is the most important thing for the rest of my family. We find this sofa extremely comfortable and we are all able to fit together on it…last night we had a movie and pizza night and I was surprised that we fit together on it as well as we did.
So there you have it, there are many reasons to love this sofa and I am so grateful to have this in our new space. The funny thing is, I got a decent price for our sectional on Craigslist, and it was almost a direct trade for the new one. Can’t beat that!
