Happy Fall Y’all!
I can’t believe it is almost mid-October! I know it’s such a cliche, but time really does feel like it just zooms by. It seems like just yesterday we were getting the kids off to school, and now Thanksgiving has already come and gone and we are hurtling towards Halloween. I am not prepared for that just yet! These weekend we need to nail down our costumes and put up some decorations! I have been really enjoying the Fall styling I have done around the house, but will likely swap a few things out for Halloween. But I am getting ahead of myself, lets get down to the topic of today’s post which is a summary of What I’m Loving lately!
If you are new around here, welcome! Just like the title indicates, once a month I like to talk about all the things I am loving lately, from fashion to books to tv shows. So let’s get right to it shall we?
First up is what’s new in my closet. I have to share these two sweaters that I purchased from Old Navy. As usual I was in the store looking for something for the kids, and a few items caught my eye. There is a reason you walk into that store and find yourself smack dab in the ladies section. Having to walk through this stuff all the way to the kids section at the back is not accidental. Well played Old Navy! This time of year, I have a real weakness for long cozy open cardigan sweaters. I fell for this striped sweater hard, and was torn between the creme or the charcoal one.
Thanks to the lovely kind lady in the fitting area that helped me decide! I went with the Creme.
I also couldnt pass up this cardigan.
There were several colors to choose from, but I went with the “Mushroom” which is very griege. Another top I purchased when I was shopping with my daughter, is this cute plaid number from H&M:
It’s really soft and the plaid pattern is quite subtle. I love the zipper down the back, such a cute detail. I wore it for our family Thanksgiving dinner last weekend. It is one of those tops that can be worn casually with jeans, or paired with some black pants for dressier occasions. I have some faux leather leggings that I am looking forward to pairing with this top for a night on the town.
I shared these boots in a previous “what I’m Loving Lately” post, but they are so good, it bears repeating today. I have had a chance to wear these boots several times, now that we have had some considerable rain.
I love my Hunter boots and all, but it’s nice to have a dressy option that you don’t worry about wearing in the yucky weather. There are several different styles to choose from and I can’t recommend these enough!
I have been trying to tackle my long list of outstanding projects in our house and am excited to report that I am finally seeing some progress! There has been a lot of purging going on, which always feels hard to me while I am doing it, and then when it’s done, it feels so good! I sold a console table that was in my dining room and replaced it with this gorgeous cabinet that I fell in love with from World Market. The combination of rustic wood, metal and glass speaks to my modern farmhouse heart!
There is so much storage in this baby, I can now say my dining room is clutter free! There is a place for everthing and everything is in it’s place! When I was staging this room for last week’s Fall dining room post, I was looking for a little splash of something in my favorite accent color, teal. I came across these gorgeous glasses at Walmart, of all places!
I love the way they look with my otherside white and neutral place settings. No surprise they are a best seller! And speaking of drinkware, I couldnt resist these Rae Dunn mugs I came across at Homesense.
I need more mugs like I need a hole in the head, but they were just too cute! I guess they speak to my love of labeling!
The last thing to share on the home decor front are the pillow covers I recently made to spruce up our Fall decor.
I still can’t believe I made these out of tablecloths, but sometimes you find what you are looking for in the most unusual places. These were a Homesense score…
After an unsuccesful trip to the fabric store, I was at Homesense and came across these tablecloths and they were exactly what I had been looking for! So I brought them home, washed and ironed them, chopped them up and voila, pillows!
You may have caught my post about my pantry makeover, where I talked about how I became smitten with OXO pop top containers.
It’s been a month now since I transfered all of our dry goods into these containers and I am so happy I invested in these. They were a bit of a splurge, but they are keeping our food fresh and also help to keep me organized.
It is so easy now to see what we are low on our out of. I wonder if Costco still has these? I haven’t been in awhile. If you are thinking of using them, check your local Costco first!
My friends over at the DIY Playbook got me hooked on these energy bites back at the beginning of the summer. They have become a family favorite over here and I make them at least once a week.
I can mix these up in about 5 minutes and are a great source of healthy fibre and protein. The chocolate chips are the perfect touch. I always have a smoothie for breakfast and then one of these energy bites with my second cup of coffee after the kids have gone to school.
I am currently reading “Girl Wash Your Face” and really loving it! Such a funny and unique title for a book, but once you get reading, it makes sense.
I discovered Rachel Hollis through a podcast back in the summer, and I kinda fell in love with her. She was an event planner to the stars and now is a wildly popular blogger and author. Her life story is pretty amazing and her sucess in the business world is just downright inspiring. Her newest book, which is a New York Times bestseller, is a self help kinda book with tough love advice on how to live your best life and be your best self. I love how honest she is with sharing her life lessons. I am almost finished with this book and have loved every page!
On a lighter note, I managed to get my hands on a copy of “When Life Hands you Lululemons” at my local library, which is a fun read. It is written by Lauren Weisberger who also wrote “The Devil Wears Prada” and it had a very similar vibe. This would be a great beach read…if you happen to have a beach holiday in your future!
When I learned that Reese Witherspoon had launched a book, you better beleive I hopped right onto Amazon and ordered myself a copy! It is a gorgeous book filled with beautiful photography, perfect to display as a coffee table book. It is a really interesting read and has a little bit of everything from decorating to hosting parties to cooking. I just love Reese!
You guys, I went on a movie date with my friend Emma to see this last night and oh.my.goodness. I knew it was going to be good, I had heard the buzz, but it exceded my expectations and then some. So so good – it will be kicking ass and taking names at the Oscars. I will be downloading the soundtrack today for sure. Bradley Cooper really surprised me in this film, which he also directed and produced. The man is sexy as hell and has a great singing voice! And while we all know Gaga can sing, who knew she was such a great actress? When the two of them start singing together in the movie, I seriously got goosebumps.
One of the exciting things about Fall is the return of my favorite TV Shows! I am still hooked on THis is Us and Will and Grace, but there have been a few new shows that have caught my attention. I watched the pilot of New Amsterdam and will be adding that show to my roster for sure. And did you know that Amy Pohler is directing a new sitcom? It’s called “I Feel Bad” and is about something many of us can relate to…mom gulit! Its really cute, and I have also set the ole pvr to record this one!
My husband and I were pretty excited when the new season of Ozark hit Netflix. We love this series and I am hoping there is a 3rd season in the works.
Well that about sums up the things that I am loving lately! What about you? Anything you are excited about these days? I would love to hear about it in the comments below!
